At Generations Matter Early Learning Center (GMELC), we believe in the value and uniqueness of each child we serve. We exist to provide families in our community a safe and secure place for their children, focused on genuine care, concern, and love for children.

BIBLICAL FOUNDATION

We believe that the Bible is the Living Word of God. Scripture is the foundation of everything we do.

LOVE

We desire to ensure that every child is seen and heard and knows that they are loved (Mark 10:13-15).

Meet Our Director

We are eager to provide a safe place for children to holistically grow and develop. We do not take lightly the responsibility to care for our students as we recognize how crucial this stage of development is in shaping who these children will become.

Susan Atkins
Susan AtkinsProgram Director
Mrs. Susan Atkins holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Music and brings over 12 years of experience in early childhood education. She is passionate about creating a nurturing, engaging, and fun learning environment where children can grow and thrive. In addition to her work in education, Ms. Susan serves on the Lake Erie Church worship team and is actively involved in the Kids Church program. She loves working with children, fostering joy in learning, and enriching young minds through meaningful experiences each day.

Classroom Bios

Within this environment, we seek to help each child become aware of themselves as a unique child of God and in their worth as a human being. Our childcare experience is designed to promote each child’s own individual social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. As caregivers and educators, our mission is to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment, which fosters a child’s natural desire to explore, discover, create, and become a lifelong learner.

INFANTS

Ages 6 weeks to 18 months
Children will be nurtured and cared for. All daily activities will be logged and shared with parents. Age-appropriate activities will aid in the physical, mental, and emotional development of these precious new lives.

TODDLERS

Ages 18 months to 36 months (Young Toddlers) and 2.5 to 3.5 years old (Older Toddlers)
Children will grow in their foundational developmental milestones. This classroom allows for children to safely explore their curiosity as their fine and gross motor skills develop.

PRESCHOOL

Ages 3.5 to 4.5 years old
Children will be taught the building blocks for education as they become familiar with numbers and letters, and further develop fine motor skills such as finger and hand grip.

PRE-K

Ages 4.5 years old to kindergarten
Children will transition to a classroom setting that emphasizes school readiness as we prepare them for kindergarten. Physical, mental, emotional, and social skills will be strengthened as they develop senses of independence and capability.

BEFORE SCHOOL

Elementary School Ages
Before School focuses on quiet, unstructured time, which meets the needs of the individual child. Variety of activity areas are available through the opening classrooms. Children will be served breakfast prior to them leaving on a bus for school.

AFTER SCHOOL

Elementary School Ages
After School focuses on transition time as children arrive off the bus. Children will be provided with a snack, social and quiet time, homework, structured choice activities, large and small-group-oriented activities, and teacher-led activities.

PHILOSOPHY

Our program is built around the concept that children are born ready to learn. We strive to create a safe, motivating, and encouraging learning environment.

ODJFS LICENSED

GMELC is licensed to operate legally by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The licensing rules governing children are available at the center.

STEP UP TO QUALITY

As a newly operating facility, we strive to earn and be recognized through the Ohio Department of Education’s Step Up to Quality program.
